Growing up I was always athletic and on most afternoons after school I could be found playing basketball with the boys of the neighborhood. I also enjoyed many sports. When I was 12 I started fencing. I found that I was pretty good at it and by the time I was 15, I was 7th in the nation in a class where the women ranged from 20-30 years old. After high school, I moved to Pensacola, Florida. I live there with my husband Ron, two daughters Emory 13 and Ryleigh 10 and my stepson Brandon 11. In 2007 I was asked to be the trophy girl for our local Bodybuilding and Figure competition, the Panhandle Showdown. As watched the figure girls compete I was amazed at their athletic bodies and thought to myself, “I can do that”. The following week I began lifting weights and training for my first competition, which was only 13 weeks away in Mississippi. The Battle of Biloxi was my first figure contest and I took first place in the tall class. From that moment I was hooked. I took the rest of the year off to continue training and learn as much as I could about the sport. In January 2008 I found Shannon Dey’s Bombshell Fitness and Figure Camps and decided to attend. It changed my life. I found new ways to train and the proper way to eat. After leaving the camp, I decided that my first show of the season would be the Panhandle Showdown. This was the show that sparked my interest in the sport and I couldn’t wait to be on that stage. The 2008 season has been an exciting one. I placed at least top 3 in every contest I entered with two Overall Figure Placings. Now I am on to compete nationally and starting to focus on the next step I want to take in this sport, which is obtaining my pro card. All along this rough and tough road to pro I hope to continue having as much fun as this year has brought me. I want to say Thank you first to my family for their amazing support, even when they’re tired of having chicken for dinner and for always being the best cheering section in the crowd and at home. Thank you to Shannon Dey and Rob Rosetti and Team Bombshell for reshaping my body with some grueling training sessions and showing me that this CAN be a team sport. To my personal trainer, Pat Porter for pushing me through those workouts even when I whined and for listening to days of my constant babble about food and competing. Thank you also to Russ Massey, Ty King and Max Muscle for providing me with my supplements to keep me going. I am looking forward to my future in this exciting and ever changing sport and in helping others achieve their fitness goals. NEVER SAY “CAN’T”!!!! |
